Marietta Fire solves car arson case
The Marietta Fire Department arrested Kirk Patrick Figueroa, a 26-year-old male, January 29 for the November 16, 2009, first degree arson of his vehicle at Capital Buick Pontiac GMC at 2150 Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.
Marietta Fire investigators arrested Figueroa after they received a call that someone had damaged property at the car dealership. When officers arrived, they found something capable of starting a fire inside Figueroa's vehicle, a white Honda S2000.
Fire investigators learned that Figueroa fled Georgia, but was apprehended by police in Phoenix, AZ, and returned to Cobb County to face charges. Figueroa is in custody at the Cobb County Jail.

City of Marietta Rolls Out New Fire Department Recruiting Website
After months of hard work, the collaborative effort between the City of Marietta's Fire Training Division and the talented web designers of the city's GIS department has resulted in a new source of information for individuals who seek employment with the Marietta Fire Department.
According to fire department spokesperson, Meg Richardson, the site is just one more example of the innovative strides made in recent years by Marietta's GIS web designers. "These folks are impressive. Not only are they creative, they have the can-do attitude necessary for carrying out new ideas in information-sharing."
The site went live January 20 and includes hiring requirements, applications, as well as the fire department recruiting and training facts. Options for future development include adding video and music to the site. "It didn't matter what we took to the table," stated Richardson, "the primary designer, Hoa Phan, always complied with her characteristic positive attitude. A year ago this was simply a vision. Ms. Phan made it a reality."
In 2007, Marietta's Web site, www.mariettaga.gov, built by city employees Bruce Bishop and Jeremy Waite, won second place for cities with a population under 75,000 at the National Association of Government Webmasters awards ceremony in Valley Forge, PA.
